Does an ultrasound hurt?
An ultrasound does not hurt, however, we always encourage our patients to let us know if they feel discomfort at any point of their exam. Ultrasounds are non-invasive, gentle methods typically involving a warm gel and a transducer (hand held device) to obtain images through sound waves. Most of the "discomfort" is mainly from the preparation like having to hold a full bladder for a pregnancy ultrasound or a pelvic exam until images are taken.
Am I allowed to bring someone with me to my scan?
Absolutely! We invite anyone to come as long as the patient is comfortable ⭐ However, children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult.
How long does an exam usually take?
Depending on the ultrasound they may range between 25-45 minutes. Most diagnostic exams usually take longer due to the details necessary for the exam. We also take into account any questions you may have and any preparation necessary during and after your exam.
What preparation is required for my exam?
OB DIAGNOSTIC EXAMS = FULL BLADDER
ABDOMINAL EXAMS= FAST 6-8 HOURS BEFORE YOUR EXAM
